How do I work?

I am a qualified Person Centred counsellor and psychotherapist.

Person Centred counselling focuses on communicating the core conditions of empathy, acceptance and genuineness. By doing this, clients are given what is considered to be the appropriate environment to explore their thoughts and not only talk about their feelings, but experience them in the here and now too.

The Person Centred approach does not use tools or techniques, instead it focuses on building a professional, therapeutic relationship, in which you can access your own internal resources which can help you come to your own ways of dealing with your situation.

In essence, the counselling is your journey; you are the driver and I am the passenger.

It may also be useful to use various techniques from cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic therapy. This means looking at how the way you think and how past events could be affecting your life today. Although these ways of working can be useful, the counselling I provide is person centred and I will occasionally use techniques from these ways of working, if the client and I feel this could be useful. If you would like to more details please feel free to contact me.
